Covering my sisters was developed in response to the barriers in diagnosis and treatment that women of color face in breast health prevention and care. Data shows that black women wait longer to access mammograms, have a longer gap between an abnormal test and follow-up care, and are more likely to be diagnosed in a later stage of cancer. In 2022, covering my sisters developed a toolkit and workbook that connects black and latino women and men with resources and practical education about prevention and care. The toolkit empowers patients and survivors to advocate for and seek appropriate care. Funding will support capacity building activities, including strategic planning, design and distribution work on the toolkit, and creating media content, like videos that can be used by advocates in the long-term. less

At the same time uconn mph students will 1) create and pilot a smartphone app for hartford and area residents to use to connect to nature, and 2) develop and pilot a list of resources about available programs and opportunities to explore nature within the park.
